Abstract. World Wide Web pages have introduced a new level of interactivity to the process of information exchange. Hypertext links make the process of moving from one document to another seamlessly smooth. However, hyperlinked text is only one method of calling a new document. This installment of Chemistry on the Internet will look at another method of introducing links into a web page, the imagemap, and suggest some ways in which imagemaps can be used to enhance chemistry web pages. Furthermore, through the use of some simple JavaScript commands, the functionality of imagemaps can be extended beyond simply calling up new pages to making interactive modifications on the current page.
