An exploratory experiment for the undergraduate inorganic laboratory involving the synthesis and characterization of three molybdenum coordination compounds is described. The compounds are synthesized on a microscale basis and their structures and formulas determined by infrared and visible spectroscopy, and confirmatory testing.
