Abstract. In this general chemistry experiment, the solubility product (Ksp) of potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) is determined by gravimetric analysis. Gravimetric analysis is performed on 5 mL of each of the following solutions: a saturated KHP solution, a KCl solution of “unknown” concentration, and a saturated solution of KHP made by adding KHP(s) to the KCl solution. The Ksp obtained with and without added KCl at 20 °C is 0.21 ± 0.01.
