Chemical Education and Sustainable Development: Recommendations of the International ICUC-PEIQ XV Conference

Abstract. The 15th International meeting of the Proyecto Integral de Educación Química—the Integrated Chemical Education Project—was held at the Universidad Nacional de San Luis in Argentina in October 2006. The goals of the conference were to promote in an international environment the exchange of ideas, experiences, proposals, and projects in the field of chemical education linked to sustainable development, compatible with the necessities and interests of the region; and to  emphasize aspects of teaching of first-year chemistry and teacher training that relate to sustainable development. The recommendations of the conference centered around the need to work together across national boundaries and educational levels to effect educational change so that students and the general public can learn about the intimate connection between chemistry and sustainable development.
