Abstract. An experiment using a laptop computer with webcam color image analysis to demonstrate simple absorbance is described. The computer screen provides the illumination source. Image analysis parsing the blue color component gives a linear absorbance curve for aqueous serial dilutions of yellow food coloring. The demonstration is intended for high school chemistry laboratories where spectrophotometers are not generally available.
