This paper summarizes the active-learning-based presentations that were the focus of an international conference of chemical education specialists held in Madrid, Spain in July 2007, organized by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid UPM), with the additional support of the International Center for First-Year Undergraduate Chemistry Education (ICUC).
