Cartesian Approach to Atomic and Molecular Orbitals

Abstract. Spherical polar coordinates, although important in working with hydrogenic orbitals, can be daunting for some students. An alternative formulation using Cartesian coordinates makes lower lying orbitals transparently understandable.
