In order to determine the oxygen content in the air, an excess of alkaline solution of pyrogallol was placed in a reaction chamber connected to a digital manometer. The reaction is completed in less than 24 hours, the determined oxygen content is in perfect agreement with the widely adopted value of 21 % by volume. Also the process follows, almost ideally, a first order kinetics.
