Abstract. The paper deals with the space inside body-centred cubic lattices, the ways it can be subdivided, the cavities therein and the particles they can host, the structures accordingly formed, the related space occupancy. Comparisons are made with the other cubic lattices. The concept of bipyramidal (usually known as octahedral) cavity is questioned; it is proposed to replace the expression “bipyramidal cavity” with “digonal site”.
