The paper describes the determination of the solubility product of silver acetate intended to be used in an introductory experimental chemistry course. The experiment deals with basic concepts of equilibrium and stoichiometry making use of several fundamental laboratory techniques and simple calculations. The proposed experiment can be performed in a laboratory class lasting 3 or 4 hours. The first part of the experiment was carried out by a group of 124 General Chemistry students from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The second part was tested by a laboratory technician aiming to improve the experiment.
