Abstract. The review article describes historic development of green chemistry such as the Presidential green chemistry challenge awards, the green chemistry Institute, clean products and processes, green chemistry, green chemistry letters and reviews. The concept of green chemistry and principles of green chemistry with examples of implementation of green chemistry principles are reviewed in detailed.
