Professor Ahmed Hassan Zewail of Caltech died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Pasadena, California at the age of 70. He received the Nobel Chemistry Prize in 1999 “for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy.” His personal and professional life, with an emphasis femtochemistry, are discussed in this obituary tribute.
