Abstract. In this work the use of simple probability theory and Mathematica software to rationalize the ionization of amino acids (AA) under different pH conditions is described. It is shown how the notion of probability relates to concentration and how acid-base chemistry can be taught in a straightforward manner where it concerns chemical/biochemical topics.
