An Academic Laboratory Safety Course Outline

Abstract. This comprehensive course is designed to help learners to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitude of learners in higher educational institutions of science, engineering, and technology. The outline of this paper is planned for use as an elective course for graduate-level classes. This course highlights the vital principles and essential concepts of academic laboratory safety and provides applications of these aspects in laboratory and research practice. It begins with an introduction to laboratory safety, proceeds to fire safety principles and management, then to academic laboratory environments, and finally concluding with a study of technical safety aspects. Apart from the books mentioned in the outline, the course also incorporates various review articles, research papers, PowerPoint presentations, case studies, and safety videos.
