A new iteration of a previously described organic chemistry bridge course implemented pretests and subsequently measured student progress during the two halves of the course: review of Organic Chemistry I and preview of Organic Chemistry II. There were statistically significant overall performance improvements in both cases. Progress was monitored at the level of specific topics as well, where statistically significant improvements were observed in most areas of the review and all aspects of the preview. In addition to enabling students to monitor their own progress, this approach provides insight into successes and areas for further revision of the course.
