Abstract. Analogies are a commonly used pedagogical tool, often to help introduce or explain complex concepts and phenomena that are not easily visualized. A kinesthetic analogy – an effective clap – is presented to introduce the idea of an effective collision and the three main principles behind collision theory. This analogy was used with fourth-grade students, but the simplicity and widespread familiarity of a clap makes it an understandable and relatable analogy that could be used with a wide range of age groups.
