The Kronig-Penney Model: A Single Lecture Illustrating the Band Structure of Solids

Abstract. A simple model of a crystalline solid that leads to an electronic band structure is presented. The development requires no quantum mechanics beyond that taught in most physical chemistry courses and can be taught in a single 1-hour lecture.
